Your 2010 calendar in print

The new year is here. You’re probably already using an electronic diary, but it can also be useful to have a “paper” alternative to hand. How can you create one on the Web?

Why have a paper calendar?

Are you using the Outlook calendar or your iPhone’s diary? Or do you prefer online calendars such as Google Calendar (http://calendar.google.com) and Yahoo Calendar (http://calendar.yahoo.com)? Then why would you want a paper calendar for 2010? Private use could be an answer, but also a birthday calendar for the entire family, or an activity calendar for the children. And even in a professional context, a paper calendar can prove useful. The salespeople in your business probably have no time to use a computer, if they have one at all: a traditional calendar allows them to efficiently organise their tasks, mark campaigns or holidays, schedule absences, etc. Finally, a paper calendar is easy to customise, by means of photos, your logo, etc.

In Office

In Excel it’s easy to create a calendar - especially if you use a ready-made template. Check out Vertex42 (http://vertex42.com): it offers a wide range of weekly, monthly and yearly templates for 2010, most of which can be customised. Moreover, it presents many calendars in PDF format. At Microsoft (http://office.microsoft.com/en-gb/templates - search for “calendars 2010”), you will find up-to-date templates for various applications such as Excel, Word and PowerPoint. Templates galore!

Free services

ePrintable (http://www.eprintable.com/calendar.php) allows you to create a simple monthly, weekly or annual calendar. You can select one of the images suggested or upload one yourself, and you can also add a quotation if you wish. The result can be downloaded as a PDF file. Don’t confuse this service with ePrintable Calendars (http://www.eprintablecalendars.com); the calendars are even simpler here - it’s not possible to add photos - but you can have the result printed directly or have it converted into PDF. Tip. When clicking on a box in the calendar, you can also add notes, such as birthdays, public holidays or open houses. Note. Print the calendar immediately after inserting your notes, since this data is not saved online.

Paid for version

More options are offered by CalendarsQuick (http://www.calendarsquick.com). It costs $9.95 or £5.85/year, but you can try it out free of charge first. You will find a wide variety of calendars here, with loads of options: you can enter a title, specify on which day the (working) week should start, set the hours of the working week, add events, insert photos at the top or as a background, etc. Tip. Three specific formats are available here: Household, Business and Academic.

Don’t forget the photo print services!

Some of the above services or, for instance, Free Photo Calendar (http://www.freephotocalendar.net/free-printable-photo-calendar.php), allow you to integrate a photo, your company logo or any other image into your calendar. Tip.Most online photo services let you use your own digital photographs to create a personal calendar. Examples are Foto.com (http://uk.foto.com), FotoInsight (http://fotoinsight.co.uk), Photobox (http://www.photobox.co.uk), MyPix (http://www.mypix.com/uk/uk/home/) or the services of chains such as Tesco’s or Kodak.

You can create handy paper calendars in Excel, Word or PowerPoint using a wide range of templates. Adding photos is possible via dedicated services, and don’t forget the online photo print services!
