Electric vehicles, how far can you go?

Real life numbers. We have been testing two electric vehicles over recent months - a Jaguar I-pace and an Audi E-tron. According to the manufacturers, the range on the vehicles is in the region of 250 miles on a full charge. However, it’s fair to say that in our experience, they get nowhere near this. The Jaguar does come out slightly on top, but both do more like a maximum of 200 miles, rather than 250.

Tip. If range is an issue for you when deciding whether to go electric, our suggestion is to take 20% off the claimed range, and a further 5% off if most of your miles are on the motorway.

Our testing on two electric vehicles identifies that they deliver about 20% fewer miles on a charge than advertised. Range suffers further if miles are covered on a motorway.
