Environmental regulation changes ahead?

A look to the future. The Environment Agency (EA) Chief Executive, Sir James Bevan is calling for “a modern approach to regulation” . This is in response to the effects of the coronavirus pandemic and the fact that the UK now has the ability to set its own rules and break free from the shackles of EU directives.

What to expect? As you’d expect, the EA is advocating regulation as the way to go. However, it’s not clear whether the government is keen to back this approach. As there are different opinions in the seats of power, the only logical outcome of this is delay. This means that it will be a case of as you were for the foreseeable future and gradual changes to legislation and approaches from the EA etc. in the coming years.

The Environment Agency wants to adopt a modern approach to regulation. However, it’s not clear if the government is on the same page. This means any changes to legislation won’t come any time soon.
