Q&A - are green taxes from Europe coming?

Q. There’s talk in Europe of a carbon tax plus annual taxation of energy, which would make the greenest fuels the cheapest. Is this something we need to prepare for?

A. There are proposals on the table to introduce new pan-European green taxes. These plans are due to be discussed this month and may yet come to nothing. Even if they do get the green light, you won’t have to pay them for at least three years - possibly eight. We think that although this could happen, there are many hurdles to get over which could hold them up, or even kill them off completely.

There is talk of pan-European carbon taxes being introduced, but at the moment, they’re at least three years away, probably more. So for the time being, you don’t need to worry about them.
