ENVIRONMENTAL PERMITTING - 14.04.2011

Changes to permitting regulations

What’s happening? The Environment Agency (EA) has announced that it intends to make changes to the rules for some standard permits (see The next step). The four new rules, which will be published on April 6 2011, will cover:

  • composting biodegradable waste (in open and contained systems)
  • metal recycling sites
  • vehicle storage, depollution and dismantling (authorised treatment) facility; and
  • treatment of waste wood for recovery.

Tip. If you have existing permits which cover any of the facilities listed above, you should check the EA website to see what changes, if any, you need to make to maintain compliance with your permit.

For a link to the relevant page on the EA website, visit http://environment.indicator.co.uk (EN 05.10.09).

The EA has announced that it will be making changes to the rules of some standard environmental permits. Those that run metal recycling sites and treat waste wood are affected. Full details of the changes will be on the EA website from April 6 2011.
