Discover new authors, artists or films

Are you an avid reader who’s constantly in search of new books to read? Try out the Literature-map website (http://www.literature-map.com). In the search field on the start page, type the name of your favourite author, and the site will start looking for related writers. Their names are displayed graphically: the closer the names appear to the author you entered (at the centre), the closer the relationship. When you click on one of the suggested names, it then becomes the centre of the map. Unfortunately, this is about the only thing that this site does: there’s no background information about authors and their work.

Note. this website is an initiative by Gnod (http://www.gnod.net), which also offers similar search modules for music and films. In the music module, for example, you’re expected to enter three of your favourite bands. The suggestions we received were generally relevant. There’s a similar initiative: Liveplasma (http://www.liveplasma.com), the “discovery engine”, which also seeks relationships between artists, films and books. Both sites complement each other.

On the Gnod and Liveplasma websites, enter your favourite author, artist or film, and these free services will then look for related items you might like.
