New incorporations service

New companies. Companies House (CH) in conjunction with Business Linkhavelaunched a service which allows prospective directors to form companies online without having to go through a company formation agent. The advantages are that you deal direct with CH and it costs £18 as opposed to around £40 to £150 through an agent. CH has also recently added a feature whereby your company formation details can be used to register you with the Taxman.

Tip. Our advice is that as long as you’re certain you don’t need special terms or conditions included in the company’s articles of association, e.g. different types of share, the direct incorporation service is fine. Otherwise, use a company formation agent because, unlike CH, they’ll be able to give advice, usually for little or no additional cost.

For £18, you can incorporate a company within a day using CH’s online service. Plus you can also opt to automatically register it with HMRC at the same time. However, company formation agents can do the job for well under £100 and you can take advantage of their advice.
