Data Protection Act: are you compliant?

No option. The Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) has discovered that most small businesses are confused about their legal obligations under the Data Protection Act 1998 (DPA). As ignorance is no defence, the ICO has created a new data protection self-assessment toolkit which allows business owners and directors to check their compliance with the DPA (see The next step ). It can be completed as one comprehensive assessment or as separate checklists, so you can adapt it to your individual business needs. Users are being assured that no responses are stored - so if the toolkit uncovers a potential problem in your business you won’t inadvertently notify the ICO about it.
