Useful apps for your smartphone photos
Retouch
TouchRetouch ( http://www.adva-soft.com/products/touch-retouch ) for iOS (£1.99) and Android (£1.79) lets you remove unwanted content from your photos in just a few clicks. Does a person, car or dustbin mar your photo? Just mark the unwanted object and the app will use the colours of adjacent pixels to remove it. The results were excellent in our tests. The app lets you share the resulting photos via Facebook or Twitter. If you use your smartphone to make lots of selfies, give Airbrush a try ( http://www.appairbrush.com - for iOS and Android, free with in-app purchases). It lets you make your face prettier and edit various other parts (eyes, teeth, lips, forehead, etc.). The app comes with lots of built-in filters and enables you to resize or reshape photos.
Works of art with Prisma… and 1967
To turn ordinary photos into real-looking works of art, install the free Prisma app ( http://www.prisma-ai.com ) and apply dozens of different artistic filters. If you swipe to the left, the effect of the filter will be weakened, if you swipe to the right it will be intensified. Tip 1. In the app’s Store you can download even more filters which are updated regularly. Tip 2. To enhance your selfies try the clipped background feature - it creates a highly original effect.
The free 1967 app (for iOS and Android - search in the respective app stores) is great fun. The default filters make your photos look as if they have been taken with an old camera, while an in-app purchase of about £1 gives makes even more filters available.
Make a collage with Picsart
The free Picsart ( http://www.picsart.com ) for iOS and Android allows you to create simple collages, e.g. by adding “stickers” to photos. In addition, there are filters and you can add effects (try Midnight or Nightcore). Tip. You can use the app to mix multiple photos with stunning results. You can save the resulting collages or share them via Instagram, Facebook, Messenger or e-mail.
Merge two photos
You can combine multiple pictures into a photomontage using Juxtaposer ( http://www.pocketpixels.com/Juxtaposer.html - for iOS only, £3.49). After selecting the foreground and background pictures; you can start removing elements from the foreground picture manually - you can work more accurately by zooming in and selecting the Red Mask Mode. In addition, you can adjust the contrast, brightness and colours. Conveniently, the app keeps track of every editing step, so you can always revert to a previous version if something goes wrong.
Turn your photo into a sketch
Sketch Photo Maker (free, for Android only) lets you convert your photos into realistic pencil sketches. The process is completely automated and you can work with tools such as ordinary pencils, colour pencils, charcoal, watercolours or even pastel crayons. You can save the result or share it via Facebook or Instagram. Note. You can’t edit the result manually. For iOS there’s the free Photo Sketch - Doodle Effects ( https://goo.gl/zyk71s ), which creates similar sketch effects.
