What does Brexit mean for .eu?
Domain extensions. There are many domain extensions that businesses can register websites under, for example, .com, .co.uk, .co and .org. The European Commission has announced that the right to use the .eu domain extension will be officially withdrawn from the UK when the Brexit transition period starts, not on the date we leave the EU. From then, UK businesses will be prohibited from using it.
Looking ahead. In the interim, EURid (which is the organisation that’s responsible for administering .eu domain names), will be able to revoke existing .eu domain names that are owned by UK businesses and refuse applications originating from the UK to grant or renew an .eu domain name. If your business uses or owns an .eu domain name, consider moving over to an alternative extension as soon as possible.
