New restrictions on drone flying

Clipped wings. An amendment to the UK Air Navigation Order 2016 came into force on 30 July 2018 restricting pilots from flying their drones above 400 feet and within 1km of airport boundaries (unless they have permission). The new limitations tighten up previous rules, e.g. the height restriction applied to drones weighing more than 7kg only.

On the horizon. In November 2019 additional requirements kick in: those operating unmanned aircraft weighing 250g or more will need to take a safety test and register with the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).

New restrictions have come into force banning drone flights above 400ft and within 1km of an airport. There will be additional rules from November 2019 for those operating larger unmanned aircraft.
