Changed PPE regulations ahead

What’s happening? Planned amendments to the Personal Protective Equipment at Work Regulations 1992 will bring workers known as “limb (b) workers” within their scope. These are workers who tend to be self-employed, providing a service as part of someone else’s business and who are not allowed to substitute someone else to do the work in their place. Couriers, for example, commonly work on this basis. Amending regulations should come into force on 6 April 2022.

Tip. If you have self-employed workers who are currently not given free PPE by your business, you should check if you’ll be affected by this change in the law and, if needed, make preparations to comply when the legislation is published (see The next step ).

If you use self-employed workers and do not currently supply them with PPE, check out legislative changes which will affect some employers and workers from April 2022.
