DISABILITY DISCRIMINATION - 13.01.2022

Consultation launched on disability workforce reporting

As part of the National Disability Strategy, the government is now consulting on disability workforce reporting. Is this something you need to worry about?

Consultation ambit

The government’s consultation (see Follow up ) includes questions about both current practice and how best to increase workforce reporting practice on disability, exploring both voluntary and mandatory reporting frameworks. Using the responses it receives, it will build an evidence base about: (1) current reporting practices, and what works well; (2) benefits and barriers to disability workforce reporting; (3) how mandatory reporting, if adopted, might be implemented in practice; and (4) alternative approaches that could be taken to increase transparency and employment of disabled people in the workplace.

Pro advice. The consultation closes on 25 March 2022 if you want to contribute to it.

Employer size

The consultation only considers disability workforce reporting for large employers, i.e. those with 250 or more employees. There are no proposals to introduce a mandatory reporting framework for smaller employers. However, they can, if they wish, use the existing voluntary framework to report information on disability, mental health and wellbeing (see Follow up ).

Voluntary reporting on disability, mental health and wellbeing: guidance

The consultation only considers disability workforce reporting for those employers who have 250 or more employees, so smaller employers don’t need to worry about it.
