Q&A - minimum salary for Skilled Worker visas

Q. Is it correct that the minimum salary level to sponsor a worker for a Skilled Worker visa is to increase beyond inflation in AprilĀ 2024?

A. Yes. The minimum general salary threshold for new applicants to the Skilled Worker route will rise by 48% from Ā£26,200 to Ā£38,700 from 4Ā AprilĀ 2024. For many roles, workers on a Skilled Worker visa must be paid a higher job-specific ā€œgoing rateā€ salary. There will be hefty increases to these going rates too, up to the median UK salary for the role. These rises are likely to be particularly challenging for businesses operating outside the South East of England, where salaries are generally lower.

However, those workers who are already in the Skilled Worker route before 4Ā AprilĀ 2024 will be exempt from the new salary requirements when they change employment, extend their visa or apply for settlement.

The general salary threshold for a Skilled Worker visa will rise by 48% from Ā£26,200 to Ā£38,700 from 4Ā AprilĀ 2024. There will also be significant increases to the higher job-specific ā€œgoing rateā€ salaries.
