TAX TITBITS - 02.03.2006

Still waiting?

Where is it? Are you a small employer? Did you file your year-end P35s and P14s online last year? Are you still waiting to receive the online filing incentive payment from the Taxman? If so, you are probably not alone.

News. The incentive payment is only made for year-end returns that are required to be filed online. If you file a return that is not due, you will not qualify for the incentive payment. However, it seems that many P35s (which are, in fact, required) have been wrongly coded on the Taxman’s computer as not due (L35), with the result that he will not bother to send you the letter needed to claim a cheque for the incentive payment.

Tip. Ring up your PAYE office and see if this applies to you. Once the problem has been identified, the coding can be changed. However, it may still take several months for the money to be forthcoming.

If you are still awaiting notification of your incentive payment for online PAYE filing, contact your PAYE office to make sure your P35 hasn’t been incorrectly labelled as an L35, i.e. not due.
