Taxman’s alert for employers

September alert. The Taxman recently issued a press release regarding a change to the “Basic PAYE Tools” he provides for employers. But it only concerns those companies that use HMRC’s PAYE tax and NI calculator and checker. If you don’t, then there’s no need to worry about the alert.

Disc replacement. Currently, the Taxman provides his PAYE tools on a CD-ROM but this will stop in February 2011. Instead you’ll be able to download the program from HMRC’s website. There’s no weblink as yet, however, as soon as one is available we’ll let you know. But if you want to use the Taxman’s new program, there’s something you need to do now.

User update. The new PAYE program, available from February, won’t work fully unless you update your current CD-ROM version. To do this you’ll need to visit HMRC’s website at http://www.gov.uk/employers/cdrom and follow the on-screen instructions. It’s simple to do; we tried it!

If you want to continue to use HMRC’s PAYE calculation tool after January 2011, you should download the September update to the existing CD-ROM based program now.
