Latest card scams directed at businesses

There’s been a reported increase in the number of scams directed towards businesses offering payment by card. Most of these scams work by fraudsters attempting to convince businesses to provide sensitive information such as card numbers and other transaction information (“phishing”).

For example. Fraudsters posing as the card processing company’s staff contact you to advise of a change to the authorisation telephone number. You will be advised to ring this alternative number for every transaction you process in the next few hours. When you ring, you will be asked to provide a card number, expiry date and the three digits on the signature strip in addition to other information. If you receive such a request, do not make the call - only use the phone numbers originally provided by your card processing company.

Be alert to anyone asking for cardholder details - if in any doubt, contact your card processing company.
