ENFORCEMENT - 25.11.2011

Is a single enforcement authority on the cards?

Rumours. Some of our subscribers have contacted us because they’ve heard that the HSE, the local authority environmental health departments and the enforcement arm of the Fire & Rescue Service are set to merge. Is this right?

It might. In the past, we would have stated that there was no chance of this happening. Now we’re not so sure. Although we’re not aware of any immediate plans for the authorities to merge, with the constant budget pressures, and demands for consistency of enforcement across the board, it’s not beyond the realms of possibility that such a move may happen.

Although there are no immediate plans to merge the enforcement authorities, such a move is not beyond the realms of possibility. However, you shouldn’t expect this to happen any time soon. Such a major shake up could take years to happen.
