Sunday trading laws relaxed

Eight-week difference. To help boost the economy, Sunday trading laws will be “suspended” during the Olympics for eight weeks between July 22 and September 9 2012. This means that retail premises with a floor space of over 280m2 will not be limited to opening for six hours only on those days. If the directors are thinking of taking advantage of this measure, do be aware that there are strict rules on Sunday workers’ opt-out rights which have also been temporarily changed.

Between July 22 and September 9 2012, Sunday trading laws will be suspended. This means opening hours for retail premises over 280m2 won’t be limited to six hours, but workers do have the right to opt-out.
