Has Renault cheated emissions tests as well?

In the news. In January 2016 the BBC reported that shares in the French carmaker Renault had plunged. This was because claims had been made that it had become embroiled in the emissions testing scandal.

Raids. Fraud investigators targeted engine control units that appeared to be similar to those used by Volkswagen. However, Renault was very quick to state that they’re not cheat devices and that it has never cheated on any emissions test.

Making improvements. Although Renault may not have cheated on the tests (at this point there’s no evidence to suggest otherwise), by its own admission it’s not completely squeaky clean. In a move to deflect the claims, Renault stated that its fuel efficiency figures are no more accurate than its competitors. That said, it used the opportunity to confirm that it is going to invest in new technology that helps it to produce real life figures.

Tip. Although car manufacturers can’t seem to provide real life fuel efficiency figures, some independent sources can. You can find these on numerous online sites, in car magazines, etc.

Renault has been quick to shoot down claims that it has cheated on emissions tests. As it stands, there’s no evidence to suggest that it has done so. It’s working on producing real life fuel efficiency figures as well. In the meantime, you can obtain these from independent sources.
