BEREAVEMENT PAY - 20.09.2018

No bereavement pay in Northern Ireland

The Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy has announced that are no plans for the new statutory payment of bereavement pay to be extended to Northern Ireland. This is because all statutory payments excluding the NMW are a devolved matter for the Northern Irish Assembly, and with the Assembly in abeyance there is no opportunity for the legislation to be UK-wide. Bereavement pay and leave is due to be implemented in the three other parts of the UK from 6 April 2020, and the necessary legislation is currently making its way through Parliament.

There are no plans for the new statutory payment of bereavement pay to be extended to Northern Ireland. For the rest of the UK it will be introduced in April 2020.
