Tag your photos on iOS with HashPhotos

If you take hundreds or even thousands of photos using your iPhone, it is often difficult to find that specific photo you’re looking for quickly. How can the HashPhotos app help you?

Useful

The Photos app for iOS is a great application: it lets you view your photos by date, while people are automatically tagged via face recognition. Plus, the maps function makes it easy to find photos taken in specific locations.

Tip. The search function allows you to search not only by place and person, but also by category or type of photo. These categories are created automatically by the app, e.g. Snow, Mountains, Sports, Cars, Beach or Forests. Nevertheless, the Photos app has its limitations: for example, it is impossible to assign tags to photos yourself or to annotate them.

HashPhotos

The free HashPhotos app ( http://www.beyondf.com/hashphotos - from iOS 9.1) extends the capabilities of the Photos app. Since this app uses the photos from your iOS Camera Roll, it doesn’t make you lose any disk space. After installation, you will see all your photos organised by month and day. If you tap on a photo, you can add a tag using the button at the bottom resembling a price tag. This tag can be anything, e.g. the name of a city, colleague, etc.

Tip 1. You can assign multiple tags to a single photo. Once you have entered your tags, you can select them for other photos and re-use them. You can also add a note to each photo by clicking on the button to the left of the tag button.

Tip 2. If you select photos on the main screen, you can assign the same tag(s) or notes to multiple photos in one go.

Tip 3. If you slide the photo up or tap on the i symbol, you will see all the relevant technical details (shutter speed, resolution, etc.), and you can click through to its location on Google Maps or Apple Maps. Note. If you delete photos they will be automatically deleted from the Camera Roll.

The tags are very useful for finding photos quickly. Tap # to use common tags such as photo, video, jpg, nearby, edited, etc. Use @ to enter a date or a period.

Tip 1. The app supports Spotlight, so you can find photos in the iOS search screen (swipe right on the main screen).

Tip 2. To reset the search function, tap and hold the magnifying glass.

Tip 3. You can recognise tagged or annotated photos by the blue dot above the thumbnail view.

Timeline and events

On the app’s main screen, swipe left to see the timeline. By default, you can choose a month to view that month’s photos. However, if you tap briefly on a specific day, you can give that day a name, after which it will appear in the timeline. Swiping to the right on the main screen will display the albums, which are the same as in the iOS Photos app. Click on the + sign and choose Smart Album to create one that matches one or more tags. You can also create a folder which contains multiple albums. In a Private Album , you can make certain photos accessible only after users have entered a PIN code. Note. These photos will only be accessible in the HashPhotos app. By tapping Albums ; Settings you can change the size of the thumbnails and set the quality of the edited photos.

Expand the possibilities of the Photos app on your iPhone or iPad by using the free HashPhotos. It lets you add tags (making them easier to find), annotate photos and create tag-based virtual albums.
