Watch those electricity bills - literally

Cost control. Like any self-respecting director you keep a close eye on costs. You can get a breakdown of things like your communications charges, but what about energy consumption? You have an electricity meter that you read once in a while so that the energy supplier can send you a bill. But the meter doesn’t tell you how much individual pieces of equipment are actually using. Just think how much each PC and monitor consumes. And what about heaters and kitchen appliances. So is there a solution?

Plug in and see. We’ve found a very handy plug-in energy monitor that records the consumption of the appliance that’s plugged into it. It can monitor consumption up to 999KWh over a period of more than a year. It can also show the volts, amps and watts being used. It’s a small and inconspicuous piece of kit and resembles a time switch. Cost? We found one for £24.99.

Get hold of an inexpensive energy monitor to see how much electricity your appliances are really consuming. You’ll then be able to make savings, where appropriate.
