DRESS CODES - 01.10.2021

Why you shouldn’t ditch the dress code

No ties. Over the past 18 months many employees have got used to dressing in a much more relaxed style. It’s been suggested that this has made dress codes redundant and they should be scrapped. Should you do this?

A boost. Apart from the fact you should still expect certain minimum standards, e.g. in respect of personal hygiene, appropriate workplace attire and professionalism, research shows that a reasonable dress code can boost employee productivity and wellbeing. So, although you should still maintain a clear dress code, you may wish to review and perhaps relax your existing rules.

Whilst it’s been suggested that the pandemic has made dress codes redundant don’t rush to scrap yours just yet. Apart from the fact you can still expect minimum appearance and hygiene standards, a reasonable dress code can boost productivity and wellbeing.
